Measuring clinical and financial outcomes in oncology is extremely difficult, especially measuring savings. The difficulty is due to geographical differences in practice patterns, new therapy introductions and co-morbidities and other challenges when developing accurate measurement models. Provider engagement is key to the quadruple aim, said Joe Couto, as he reviewed types of measurement approaches used to capture improvements in quality of care, cost and provider experience. He also explained what to watch out for in a savings calculation and the preferred way to measure outcomes at CVS Health.
