E. Paul Amundson, MD FAAFP

E. Paul Amundson, MD, joined CVS Health in 2017. Board certified by the American Board of Family Practice, Dr. Amundson serves as a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Sanford School of Medicine at University of South Dakota. He is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, NAMCP and America’s Health Insurance Plans and has held several leadership positions in local and state medical societies. He has travelled extensively to Central America for short-term medical mission work.

Dr. Amundson previously served as Chief Medical Officer of DAKOTACARE Health Plan, a regional managed care health plan. As a member of the executive leadership team, he oversaw all medical management operations. In 2015, he earned his Certified Health Insurance Executive (CHIE) designation from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

A native of Indiana, Dr. Amundson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Dakota and received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989. After completing residency training in family medicine, he was in private practice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for 15 years before joining DAKOTACARE.
